As armed citizens, we often focus on the use of firearms, empty hand, edged and improvised weapons to defend ourselves. These are worthy skills to pursue. However, we often fail to either deeply examine the laws of self-defense, or grasps the concepts and legal ramifications of using our skills. This seminar will discuss the laws of self-defense, what might happen following your defending yourself, and how to best protect yourself from criminal charges and civil suits following your actions. Surviving the fight is often just the first step. This seminar is delivered in a classroom and lecture format over approximately 3 hours although it can run slightly longer depending on student questions. The instructor for this class has over 3 decades of law enforcement experience, has testified as an expert witness in police use of force cases, is a college professor, and has a law degree.
- Force application probabilities.
- Black letter law regarding self-defense.
- California specific law regarding self-defense.

This course is presented as a means of distilling the foundational process of the handgun presentation and the shot process employment in a rapidly unfolding, and demanding set of circumstances. The course will utilize the Steel Challenge competition course to refine the draw stroke, trigger press, sight acquisition, slide lock reloads, strong hand and weak hand shooting, and movement to cover. This course will not focus on tactics so much as faster shooting with acceptable accuracy for the situation. Enrollment for this class is limited to current Law Enforcement, Reserve Law Enforcement, and agency Range Masters or trainers. The Steel Challenge is a fast-paced shooting competition with (as the name implies) all steel targets. There are eight stages. Each stage has five targets. One target is designated a “Stop Plate” which must be shot last. All other plates are typically engaged as the competitor desires. Each stage is shot five times. For the competition, the total time of the shooters four best strings on each stage is added up. The lowest time is the winner. While this class is not focused on competition shooting, it will make use of the refined shooting techniques often used by top shooters. Dates: August 23, 2020 Cost: $120 Times: 8 AM - 4 PM

This course is different from traditional self-defense courses that you may have taken in the past or that you may see on YouTube. In addition to teaching personal safety strategies and tactics, we explain the emotional and psychological processes that take place during a confrontation and how to successfully manage them. We also take an in depth look at the instinctive physiological reactions to danger and fear that, as human beings, we all share. Understanding that these reactions prepare us to respond more efficiently to a dangerous situation, will empower us to fight back harder and with more resolve!
