This course is designed for the shooter who wants to become proficient with the revolver either for sport, defensive use, or just to advance their understanding of different weapon systems. In this class we will cover the basics of revolver shooting (including grip and how/why it might differ from semi-auto handguns), as well as sighting systems common with the revolver. We will also cover the draw stroke, reloading, common malfunctions with the revolver, and maintenance. This course will leave the shooter with a different and deeper appreciation for the revolver.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this class. Students should have some awareness of safe firearm handling.Equipment needed
- Center fire double action or double action/single action revolver
- 350 Rounds of ammunition (if you are shooting a magnum revolver, we suggest using lower power rounds such as 38 special in a 357 magnum, or 44 special in a 44 magnum).
- Two speed loaders or two speed strips
- Holster
- Pouch for the speed loaders/speed strips
- Eye and ear protection. Eye protection must be impact resistant
- We strongly suggest you wear cargo pants, or some other garment that will allow you to carry additional rounds to the firing line.

This long range handgun course is not offered very often and is limited in class size to a maximum of 10 students. The class will focus on using the ballistics of the individual’s handgun choice for shooting out to 200 yards. The Extended range handgun class is a great class for those interested in handgun hunting, as well as those who want a different and more challenging perspective for handgun shooting. After shooting at targets over 100 yards away with your handgun, 25-yard targets will seem pedestrian. Prerequisites: Knowledge of handgun shooting basics. Equipment:
- Handgun in centerfire,
- Handgun caliber. Rifle caliber handguns will not be suitable for this class,
- Single Shot, Semi-Auto, Single Action and DA/SA revolvers are all suitable for this class,

Pistol safety and marksmanship skills for urban environment at California Tactical Academy designed for firearms training and practice.
This course will focus on the defensive use of a handgun in the urban environment with heavy emphasis on maneuvering through and around common urban obstacles while engaging threats. We will fire from and around vehicles, walls, and barricades, simulated objects of cover/concealment such as fire hydrants, trash receptacles, telephone poles and the like. Low Light Shooting Course
Many defensive shootings occur in low light or no light environments. This can be shooting during the hours of darkness, or in an interior environment with limited ambient light. To better prepare for such an encounter, we are providing a course focused on low light, no light shooting tactics. This course will focus heavily on the use of flashlights and other outside forms of illumination, the use of ambient light to obtain an acceptable sight picture, and the importance of target discrimination on defensive shootings. To this end, the course will utilize both the shooting range, as well as the indoor simulator with airsoft or simunition for training. *Start and end times will vary depending on the time of the year. Basic Precision Rifle Course is an introduction to long range shooting.
This course is designed for the shooter who wishes to develop the skills to engage small targets with a high degree of probability for first round hits. This includes sportsmen as well as hunters. We will discuss equipment selection, the fundamentals for precision rifle marksmanship, supported field positions, ballistics, and ammunition considerations. Shooting will primarily be done at 100 and 200 yards. This course is designed for a rifle with a telescopic sighting device, preferable of at least 7 power magnification. During this class, we will be walking to the target and back. Please wear comfortable boots for such activity.Prerequisites: None

1. Bolt action or Semi-Automatic rifle in center fire cartridge. 2. Quality rifle scope of at least 7 power magnification. We strongly encourage the student bring a rifle capable of 2 minutes of angle accuracy, or better. While less accurate rifles will may work, it is possible the student will be frustrated with some target engagements if the rifle suffers from a lack of accuracy. 3. A quality optic is strongly encouraged. If you have questions as to the type or brand, please contact us for recommendations. 4. 200 rounds of good quality, factory ammunition. Again, match quality will be a strong selection here, lesser quality ammunition will leave the student unsure if their deficiencies are equipment/ammunition-related, or skills-driven. 5. Ballistic eye protection. 6. Hearing protection. 7. Shooter's mat, as most of the shooting will be from the prone position. 8. A rear bag for the rifle stock. 9. This course will focus on helping hunters better prepare, or brush up their rifle skills for upcoming hunts. This course will include rifle zero, ballistics and ammunition discussions, equipment, field positions, animal approach, use of shooting sticks and other field expedient supports, and accuracy refinement. Prerequisites: Course attendees should be familiar with the basic function of their rifles, and have a rough zero on their rifle. Iron sights or optics are suitable for this course. Firearms should be center fire as shots will exceed 200 meters. Much of this course is shot on steel targets. This is a low intensity course with strong focus on skills, not round count. Outdoor Shooting Range For Rental
This booking is for a private range and is a pistol & shotgun range ONLY. Maximum 4 shooters allowed under base fee. Additional shooters are $40 per person and everyone must check in at Check-in at the Public Range. Firearms allowed: Pistols & Shotguns NO RIFLE CALIBERS!! Only .22lr is okay. Precision Rifle matches in Piru, CA
Precision Rifle matches are every 2nd Saturday of the month. Precision Rifle matches consist of 6 stages with challenging targets from 200 to 1000 yards. The round count is around 60. Each stage requires between 9 to 12 rounds. The shooters will be moving on uneven terrain and shooting from positions that will simulate field conditions. This is an excellent match for all practitioners of long-range shooting regardless of skill level. This match will also be beneficial for hunters as well as military and law enforcement snipers. Ammunition limitation: Caliber is limited to .30 caliber max, with a maximum speed of 3500 FPS. No steel core ammunition will be allowed. Equipment You will need a rifle with an optic that will allow you to locate and engage targets, and any other shooting gear you like to use. Rangefinders, spotting scopes, binoculars, shooting rests are all acceptable. Divisions are either Semi-Auto or Manually Operated Rifle. Safety Requirements: All long guns must have a safety/chamber flag installed when not on the line. Currently a certified Ventura County Concealed Weapons instructor and a member/trainer for the NRA “Woman on Target” program supporting and educating females in the shooting sports and the “Disabled Shooting Services Program” that enables those with physical disabilities to participate in shooting sports. Jennifer has a passion for teaching and understands that women learn differently than men. A native of Southern California, Jennifer has lived in Ventura County for over 30 years.
