  • basic precision rifle course

Basic Precision Rifle Course is an introduction to long range shooting.

This course is designed for the shooter who wishes to develop the skills to engage small targets with a high degree of probability for first round hits. This includes sportsmen as well as hunters. We will discuss equipment selection, the fundamentals for precision rifle marksmanship, supported field positions, ballistics, and ammunition considerations. Shooting will primarily be done at 100 and 200 yards. This course is designed for a rifle with a telescopic sighting device, preferable of at least 7 power magnification. During this class, we will be walking to the target and back. Please wear comfortable boots for such activity.

    Prerequisites: None

Check in 8:00am Start time: 8:30am End time: 4:00pm

    Equipment needed:

    1. Bolt action or Semi-Automatic rifle in center fire cartridge. 2. Quality rifle scope of at least 7 power magnification. We strongly encourage the student bring a rifle capable of 2 minutes of angle accuracy, or better. A quality optic is strongly encouraged. If you have questions as to the type or brand, please contact us for recommendations. 4. 200 rounds of good quality, factory ammunition. Again, match quality will be a strong selection here, lesser quality ammunition will leave the student unsure if their deficiencies are equipment/ammunition-related, or skills-driven. 5. Ballistic eye protection. 6. Hearing protection. 7. Shooter's mat, as most of the shooting will be from the prone position. 8. A rear bag for the rifle stock. 9. Notebook and pen for note taking.

  • “The Fundamentals of Fast”  by Frank Proctor

"SHOOTING is my PASSION and PROFESSION, I have been shooting or training almost everyday for the past 15 years. I have been a USPSA Grandmaster for the the past 10 years and served 15 years in the US Army Special Forces. In this course I offer my thoughts, information, experience  and ABILITIES to help you become the best shooter you want to be.  My goal is to teach you the way and give you an understanding of how to perform, and how to train to perform better...always better, Faster, more Accurate, Easier..." - Frank Proctor- The Proctor Shooting Process involves an in-depth understanding and mastery of the following 5 "Fundamentals of Fast" in order to shoot Fast, Accurate, Easy.

These concepts apply to WINNING in Competition, Combat or Recreational Shooting PROCESSING

Shooting is VISUAL. Processing is the most important component and all the others are there to support the Processing. Visual information must come in through the eyes and be processed by the mind so that it can provide the best output.

    CONTROL

Recoil and trigger control. Recoil control is important to give the eyes the correct relationship of rear sight, front sight and target. Sights and triggers are the core fundamentals of marksmanship. Trigger control is important to put the least amount of movement into the gun possible for a variety of scoring speeds.

    MECHANICS

Mechanics are the things required to get the gun in front of the eyes so that the mind can process information to provide output. Mechanics such as draws, reload, malfunction, clearance, etc., should be efficiently done with fluid and repeatable hand speed in order to support the Processing and Mindset.

    MOVEMENT

The practical applications or shooting require movement. It should be done the most efficient way possible to get the shooter from point A to point B so that they are in the best position possible to shoot and or to shoot effectively while covering ground.

    MENTAL CONTROL

Shooters must remain calm and allow the visual information to come in so that the mind can process the information and provide the best output. We must maintain the mental control and visual discipline necessary to SEE what we need to SEE and LETITDO!

  • This course is presented as a means of distilling the foundational process of the handgun presentation and the shot process employment in a rapidly unfolding, and demanding set of circumstances. The course will utilize the Steel Shooting competition course to refine the draw stroke, trigger press, sight acquisition, slide lock reloads, strong hand and weak hand shooting, and movement to cover. This course will not focus on tactics so much as faster shooting with acceptable accuracy for the situation.  Enrollment for this class is limited to students who have had some basic training and can safely draw to a target and reliably hit an 8 inch circle at 15 yards.

The Steel Shooting is a fast-paced shooting competition with (as the name implies) all steel targets. There are eight stages. Each stage has five targets. One target is designated a “Stop Plate” which must be shot last. All other plates are typically engaged as the competitor desires. Each stage is shot five times. For the competition, the total time of the shooters four best strings on each stage is added up. The lowest time is the winner. While this class is not focused on competition shooting, it will make use of the refined shooting techniques often used by top shooters.

    Equipment:

Sturdy belt with a holster and two magazine pouches. Serpa and similar holsters are not allowed unless issued by your agency.

Service pistol in 9mm or larger caliber.

    Three or more magazines.

400 rounds of factory ammunition or factory reloaded ammunition.

Ammunition (both factory new and factory reloaded) may be available for purchase at the range pro shop for those who wish to buy it on site. We strongly suggest you arrange with the pro shop for the ammunition purchase prior to the class, as it can sell out quickly. The ammunition count is based on a level of accuracy that assumes a majority of first round hits. It is very possible/likely that students will exceed the 400 round approximation if they go to the edge of their abilities. If you are anxious about running short of ammunition, bring more.

Eye protection. This must be ballistic rated eye wear as the entire course will feature steel targets. Splatter and splash back, while not common, does occur.

Ear protection. Electronic hearing protection is preferred.

Suitable range attire. Ballistic vests may be worn if the student wishes to train in their full equipment.
