Basic Precision Rifle Course is an introduction to long range shooting.
This course is designed for the shooter who wishes to develop the skills to engage small targets with a high degree of probability for first round hits. This includes sportsmen as well as hunters. We will discuss equipment selection, the fundamentals for precision rifle marksmanship, supported field positions, ballistics, and ammunition considerations. Shooting will primarily be done at 100 and 200 yards. This course is designed for a rifle with a telescopic sighting device, preferable of at least 7 power magnification. During this class, we will be walking to the target and back. Please wear comfortable boots for such activity.Prerequisites: None

This long range handgun course is not offered very often and is limited in class size to a maximum of 10 students. The class will focus on using the ballistics of the individual’s handgun choice for shooting out to 200 yards. The Extended range handgun class is a great class for those interested in handgun hunting, as well as those who want a different and more challenging perspective for handgun shooting. After shooting at targets over 100 yards away with your handgun, 25-yard targets will seem pedestrian. Prerequisites: Knowledge of handgun shooting basics. Equipment:
- Handgun in centerfire,
- Handgun caliber. Rifle caliber handguns will not be suitable for this class,
- Single Shot, Semi-Auto, Single Action and DA/SA revolvers are all suitable for this class,
- 200 rounds of quality ammunition,
- 2 or more magazines for the Semi-Auto,
- Speed strips or speed loaders for revolvers will be helpful. Otherwise the students will need some method of carrying additional ammunition, such as a cargo pocket, dump pouch etc,

This course will focus on helping hunters better prepare, or brush up their rifle skills for upcoming hunts. This course will include rifle zero, ballistics and ammunition discussions, equipment, field positions, animal approach, use of shooting sticks and other field expedient supports, and accuracy refinement. Prerequisites: Course attendees should be familiar with the basic function of their rifles, and have a rough zero on their rifle. Iron sights or optics are suitable for this course. Firearms should be center fire as shots will exceed 200 meters. Much of this course is shot on steel targets. This is a low intensity course with strong focus on skills, not round count. Low Light No Light Level 2 (Invite only)
In this 4 hour course students will continue to carry lvl I techniques and tactics while increasing their overall night operation capabilities. Shooters will work as individuals, teams, multiple threats including hostage situations, situational awareness, and dynamic movement. This course is designed for anyone who is interested in learning how to load, shoot, and clean a muzzleloader. Students may bring a muzzleloader already in their possession or use one provided by Burbank Muzzleloaders. This course is also appropriate for anyone who is interested in purchasing a muzzleloader and wishes to learn more about what to look for. Eye and ear protection are provided. Muzzleloaders include the following guns:
- Traditional roundball rifles (flintlock and caplock)
- Single-shot pistols
- Civil War muskets
- Cap and ball revolvers

This is not an entry level firearms course. This class requires that the student knows basic handling and manipulations of both their rifle and handgun. A sturdy belt or chest rig with magazine holders and a handgun with a holster and magazine holders. A 1 or 2-point sling will be required. It is recommended that the student bring knee pads, elbow pads, and suitable footwear for movement. During this course, you will learn firearms safety, mechanical offset at various distances, malfunction clearances, and conventional and unconventional shooting positions. The student will also work on rifle tactics, shooting with movement, speed, and positions utilizing cover. The Practical Handgun Defense Course is designed for the handgun shooter who wants to move beyond the basics. The participants should be familiar with loading and unloading their firearms, and the fundamentals of aiming and safely firing their handgun. This class will focus on the defensive use of handguns. Topics will include a review of marksmanship fundamentals. High speed aiming. Efficient presentations from the holster, both tactical and emergency reloading, Movement during the presentation. Shooting on the move. Shooting around and over cover. Multiple target engagements. And precise targets such as headshots and partially covered targets. This course will also give students a solid roadmap of what to practice and how to improve and maintain proficiency. The advanced handgun course is focused on the defensive use of handguns. Prerequisites
Understanding of gun safety and range rules and have basic knowledge of handgun use. You must supply your own handgun. Ammo requirements are approximately 450 rounds.Bring The Following

This course is designed for the shooter who wants to become proficient with the revolver either for sport, defensive use, or just to advance their understanding of different weapon systems. In this class we will cover the basics of revolver shooting (including grip and how/why it might differ from semi-auto handguns), as well as sighting systems common with the revolver. We will also cover the draw stroke, reloading, common malfunctions with the revolver, and maintenance. This course will leave the shooter with a different and deeper appreciation for the revolver.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this class. Students should have some awareness of safe firearm handling.Equipment needed
- Center fire double action or double action/single action revolver
- 350 Rounds of ammunition (if you are shooting a magnum revolver, we suggest using lower power rounds such as 38 special in a 357 magnum, or 44 special in a 44 magnum).
- Two speed loaders or two speed strips

- Pouch for the speed loaders/speed strips
- Eye and ear protection. Eye protection must be impact resistant
- We strongly suggest you wear cargo pants, or some other garment that will allow you to carry additional rounds to the firing line.

This course is presented as a means of distilling the foundational process of the handgun presentation and the shot process employment in a rapidly unfolding, and demanding set of circumstances. The course will utilize the Steel Challenge competition course to refine the draw stroke, trigger press, sight acquisition, slide lock reloads, strong hand and weak hand shooting, and movement to cover. This course will not focus on tactics so much as faster shooting with acceptable accuracy for the situation. Enrollment for this class is limited to current Law Enforcement, Reserve Law Enforcement, and agency Range Masters or trainers. The Steel Challenge is a fast-paced shooting competition with (as the name implies) all steel targets. There are eight stages. Each stage has five targets. One target is designated a “Stop Plate” which must be shot last. All other plates are typically engaged as the competitor desires. Each stage is shot five times. For the competition, the total time of the shooters four best strings on each stage is added up. The lowest time is the winner. Low Light Shooting Course
Many defensive shootings occur in low light or no light environments. This can be shooting during the hours of darkness, or in an interior environment with limited ambient light. To better prepare for such an encounter, we are providing a course focused on low light, no light shooting tactics. This course will focus heavily on the use of flashlights and other outside forms of illumination, the use of ambient light to obtain an acceptable sight picture, and the importance of target discrimination on defensive shootings. Pistol safety and marksmanship skills for urban environment at California Tactical Academy designed for firearms training and practice.
This course will focus on the defensive use of a handgun in the urban environment with heavy emphasis on maneuvering through and around common urban obstacles while engaging threats. We will fire from and around vehicles, walls, and barricades, simulated objects of cover/concealment such as fire hydrants, trash receptacles, telephone poles and the like.
